Protect Those Lips!

During the cold and blustery winter season, brighten your smile with hydrating balms that heal and protect lips against chapping and sunburn!

Did you know that the skin on your lips is thinner and more delicate than anywhere else on your body?  Don't forget to protect your kisser when the chilling winds start blowing and the sun shines brighter and stronger on the ski slopes.  Look for balms that are made from organic and natural ingredients, and steer clear of additives such as parabons, petrolatums, oxybenzoate, synthetic fragrances and artificial colors.  Remember, what you put on your body is as important as what you put in your body.

We took on the challenge of testing out dozens of different lip glosses and balms to bring you our favorites.

Our favorite for the kids:

Badger Sunscreen Lip Balm SPF 15

This no-nonsense lip balm is worth buying in bulk because it is great for kids and ski bums alike.  The price is just right too.  It stands up to playing and having fun, and is unscented so kids keep the balm on their lips rather than licking it off to taste it.  Made with healthy butters and oils to keep you hydrated.  SPF 15.  $2.97

Our favorite for him:

ChopSaver

This healing lip balm feels more masculine, so maybe your guy will be more inclined to put it on before going outside.  Created by professional trumpet player Dan Gosling, this long last lip balm goes on right and smooth.  The soothing arnica heals chapped lips and provides a mild orange flavor.  SPF 15.  $3.85

Our favorite for your athlete:

True Natural Lip Balm SPF 30

This high-performing lip balm not only provides amazing, non-whitening mineral sun protection, it protects your lips against the wind too.  Unbeatable staying power, keeps you lips moist and smooth for hours (but you should reapply just like sunscreen anyway!) with natural aloe and Vitamin E.  Another amazing benefit is that if you leave it in your car or a beach bag in the summer, it doesn't seem to melt or get all "oozey". This is a must have for outdoor sports enthusiasts.  SPF 30.  $6.99

Our favorite for her:

EOS Organic Lip Balm SPF 30

While most EOS lip balms do not contain SPF. two of their products do- a lemon and grapefruit scented option.  While this lip balm works well and is ubiquitous, the drawback is the strong aroma, which causes kids (of all ages) to lick their lips more often to taste the lip balm.  Not only will this chap your lips more, the shea butter and jojoba oils used to make the balm so smooth. aren't really good for consumption...  The egg shape is both good and bad as it is easier to open with gloved hands, however doesn't fit into your pockets as easily.  Even with those minor drawbacks, this lip balm comes up a winner for us.
