Household Uses of Eggshells

Who knew that there are so many amazing uses for the simple eggshell?  After reading this, you'll likely never throw another one away when making hard boiled eggs or baking cookies!

Eggshells are packed with healthy minerals that will work hard to clean your home and nourish your garden.  Here are some ideas that I hope will inspire you:

1.  To make your whites sparkle without the use of harsh chemicals, place eggshells in a small muslin bag or pillow case and secure tightly with a knot or string.  Throw the bag into the wash with your whites and banish all dinginess and signs of gray.

2.  To clean glass vases or bottles, place eggshells and the juice of a lemon into the dirty vase and let stand for several days, swirling occasionally.  After a few days, empty vase and wash with hot, soapy water and let dry for shiny, grime-free glass.

3.  To prevent calcium-deficiency issues (such as blossom-end rot), throw a handful of crushed eggshells into a hole before you plant your tomatoes.

4.  Prevent slugs and other creatures from destroying your plants and veggies in your garden, sprinkle crushed eggshells around your plants.

5.  Add eggshells to your compost heap to boost calcium content for next year's garden!
